Overview – Titleist GT Driver Series
Every two years Titleist releases a new driver series. Unlike competing manufacturers who attempt to churn out a new product every year, Titleist spends more time on R&D between model releases and thus the changes with each release are more significant. This year’s release (Titleist GT2, GT3, and GT4) is no exception. The Titleist GT series driver has caught up with the likes of Taylor Made and Callaway. In recent years both Taylor Made and Callaway have become well known for the superior distance and energy transfer when compared with the Titleist drivers, recently marketed as built for accuracy. What’s New?
The updated Titleist GT driver offers several technological enhancements over previous models.
- No longer a titanium only construction. It’s built using a proprietary matrix polymer brought together by a thermoformed crown.
- Split mass construction allows Titleist to shift weight to both the club face and the back of the club. This maximizes energy transfer and optimizes launch angle.
- Lighter constructions means faster swing speed and ball speeds.
- Maximum power transfer on center strikes while still maintaining forgiveness and high ball speeds on off center contacts.
Which Titleist GT driver version (GT2, GT3 or GT4) should I play?
Like many driver releases, the Titleist GT driver is a release of 3 different variants of their driver. Each version is manufactured with different levels of golfers and types of swings in mind. The GT2 and GT3 are focused on distance plus forgiveness and are suited for the beginner to advanced golfer. The GT4 has a slightly smaller club face and is built to maximize power transfer and minimize spin. It’s built for the advanced player or tour pro. The different models have varying levels of adjustability tailored for their intended audience.

FAQ
No! The Titleist GT Driver Series is an advancement in driver technology using Titleist’s proprietary matrix polymer that is lighter and stronger than titanium.
Yes! Titleist just released their tour series version of the driver called the Titleist GT280. This is a yet to be released 280 cc version of their driver that tour players may add to their bag in place of a 3 wood.
Yes! Titleist has created 3 versions of their driver with different levels of adjustability and forgiveness. If you want a more forgiving driver, you should look at their GT2 series. The GT2 series is purposely tailored for a higher handicap golfer. It will be more forgiving on off center hits but will not be as well optimized for maximizing distance for a low handicap golfer. Titleist has built their GT4 series driver for lower handicap and tour players because it is more accurate, with less spin yet less forgiving.
