About
With years of testing, playing, and tweaking, we’re here to help golfers play smarter and enjoy the game.
From swing tips to honest gear reviews, we simplify the technical stuff so you can focus on what matters, a more enjoyable, confident round. Swing Yard is your go-to for practical golf advice – from real golfers, for real golfers.
What We Do
Professional-Based Golf Instruction

Our head instructor and writer, Coach Erik Schjolberg of EJS Golf, is a PGA certified professional golf coach.
We have partnered with Erik to provide the absolute best instructional content articles to help you with not only a specific issue you may be dealing with currently, but also a PATH for you to follow in your progression to figuring out this fun (but sometimes frustrating) game of golf.
Product Testing & Evaluation

There’s a lot of noise out there when it comes to golf equipment, and we’re here to cut through it. With access to the latest golf equipment, everything we feature has been tested, compared, and reviewed by our testers team.
We provide unique, un-biased, original test reviews so that you can get honest feedback about the newest gear, AND how it applies to certain golfers (and how it may or may not apply to you).
Simulator & Tech Insights

Golf tech can be intimidating – we make it easy to understand. Whether you’re looking to build your own simulator setup at home or simply get more out of your launch monitor, our guides break it all down step by step. We cover the gear, software, and setup details you’ll actually need, based on real-world use and testing. Because improving your game shouldn’t depend on a pro studio, it should start right where you are.

Erik’s Philosophy
I hear too often that students are told that they are going to get worse before they get better. As a golf instructor for over 20 years I have never had a student leave a lesson worse than when they came.
My goal is for my students to understand what they are working on and why. I use 3D Force Plates, TrackMan 4 launch monitor, Sportsbox 3D for an all encompassing view withincredible detail and much more so each student is able to understand why the ball is curving, ball height, etc. Once you understand these numbers, you are able to make changes on the course and in essence become your own coach.
I utilize video during each lesson to show each student where they start and what progress is made at the end. They are sent a 5-10 minute video lesson along with a detailed practice plan within 24-48 hours of each lesson. This video shows them their swing, reminds them of what to work on until our next lesson, as well as which drills will help them accomplish their goals.

Swing Yard Owner, Writer, and all the other things
Expertise
Tim began his golfing career when he was in 8th grade. Making the JV team that year, he fell in love with the game. He continued playing golf through high school and also worked at multiple courses throughout those years. Similarly, he spent his summers competing on the Junior PGA tour, in Minnesota. He elected not to play in college which is when his volleyball career came to life. Tim went to the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where he first picked up a volleyball. Fast forward 15 years and he’s spent most of them traveling and competing domestically on the AVP Tour. He competed alongside his brother, Brian, before playing with a variety of playing partners post Brian’s retirement in 2018.
Throughout that time, he got married and had 3 kids who love to keep him busy. Tim never fell out of love with the game of golf, despite having to spend his summertime elsewhere. But, now he’s back and more passionate about it than ever. Tim recently quit his IT career of 13 years and is now pursuing Swing Yard full time so that he can explore one of his biggest passions of playing golf and teaching others how to get better at it. Tim currently holds a 0.6 handicap and is focused on getting to a plus.
He thoroughly loves to play a variety of courses but also finds himself buried in his golf simulator that he’s built in his garage. He’d always prefer to play outside, but when the Minnesota winter comes around, he’s happy to be able to swing a club at all. During the winters, he loves to compete on the Simulator Golf Tour where he fine tunes his game for the beautiful Spring, Summer and Fall months. He thoroughly enjoys talking about golf, learning about golf and exploring all the new golf equipment that continues to get better and better.
Tim enjoys golf and loves to watch and help people get better. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and start a discussion with him!

Expertise
Brian began his golfing career when he was in middle school and started playing on the high school varsity team as a freshman. He fell in love with the game and continued to play into college where he played at Bethel University, located in MN.
As a dual sport athlete, golf and volleyball, Brian spent most of his college years focusing on volleyball where his obsession peaked on the domestic beach volleyball pro circuit, the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals). Playing alongside his brother, Tim, they managed quite an extraordinary resume of top 10 finishes in the professional realm and competing against some of America’s finest and Olympic level athletes.
Outside of sports, Brian has 3 wonderful kids, an amazing wife, and works as a full time Quantitative Portfolio Manager for Thrivent. Brian has been heavily involved at his church, River Valley, for many years and continues to serve as an elder on the board there.
Brian continues to live in Minnesota and therefore spends half of his year in his golf simulator while the snow and cold temperatures are around. He thoroughly enjoys all the new technology and thrives on helping others and learning more about it. If you have golf simulator questions of any kind, odds are, Brian can help you!
For the final touch on Brian’s resume, he’s an outstanding golfer and hosts a +1 handicap!
